A search engine for intercity bus trips, built for broke college students who were opening six tabs to compare Megabus and Greyhound.
Got 250 beta users and a cease-and-desist. The C&D is the reason I learned to code, so it's the most productive failure on this page.

Subtle Shade
An in-browser tool for combining Subtle Patterns with a color to produce interesting website backgrounds.
Made in a summer when I was still learning how to code, complete with a Donate Bitcoin button, which brought in zero bitcoin. One of my most practically useful projects, actually.

Turns out, building a marketplace site is very difficult!

The Mustache Game
A Chrome extension for playing "the mustache game" in your browser on Netflix, Hulu, and any other streaming site.
It was actually a lot of fun as a drinking game! But when the streaming sites kept changing how their players worked, it became very difficult to keep up.

RealSearch
A Chrome extension that searched an address on Trulia, Zillow and Realtor.com all at the same time in just one click. Decent adoption with 1000+ installs at it's peak! It had the same issue with the mustache game though in that I had to keep the URL formats updated for the various sites.

Last Episode
An Alexa skill that told you the latest aired episode of any TV series and that was very useful for knowing if you were caught up on your various shows.
I built it when I was convinced that voice assistants were the new hot interface and that turned out to be at the very least a few years too early.

Block-a-saurus
A Gutenberg block that embeds the Chrome dinosaur game in a WordPress post. It was built at the time as an example of a plugin that shipped a Gutenberg block.
Last updated six years ago as it never quite got the level of adoption I was hoping for. That and it was honestly mostly feature complete anyway!

Micro-SaaS Monthly
A newsletter documenting the hunt to buy a small software company, from "From 0 to Buying a Company" to "Traction".
I wrote ten issues but after the deal closed, the priorities of actually running the company took over and it became more difficult to keep up the cadence.

TweetGrab
When Twitter got acquired, I built a WordPress plugin that swapped out embedded tweets for self-hosted screenshots, so that if it ever went down, you didn't lose the tweets embedded in your blog posts from all the years past.
Twitter never actually died, and the plugin was never very stable because of how the underlying architecture.

Air Traffic Tutor
A custom GPT that let student pilots practice radio calls, with a SaaS version that was planned at airtraffictutor.com.
The custom GPT worked and the models have only gotten better, it's just not something I've ever productized.
